Slides and Video: Social Media Analytics for Nonprofits

In the February 2020 Net2van meetup guest experts Charly Jarret and and Katrina Nguyen of the SPCA share case studies from their work with the SPCA.

Engagement? Followers? Likes? We’ve all heard the lingo, and some of us probably even write reports on these social media metrics, but what do they mean, and how can we go beyond Facebook analytics to glean real knowledge? How can we get better data to help us inform our decisions? Watch the video to learn (or subscribe to the podcast if audio is more your thing.)

Worksheet

Hands-on with Google Analytics Worksheet by Elijah van der Giessen on Scribd

We all have an idea of what Google Analytics can do, but do you know how to use it to help your organization? Do you know who your visitors are and what actions they’re completing on your website? Do you know how to best use all the data provided by Google Analytics?

We were very happy to welcome Nina Cruz and Elena Czubiak from the Google for Nonprofits team for an afternoon workshop with NetSquared Vancouver. They walked us through the latest version and features of Google Analytics, and then helped us roll up our sleeves to ensure you’re tracking clear goals for your organization. Learn what is working in your marketing efforts and on your site so you can make better decisions to further your mission.

Mapping Your Data + QGIS Slides

January’s NetSquared Vancouver meetup featured a free-flowing discussion about how data can be mapped and visualized. Event host Noah Ferguson shared his experience working in the political realm and we received an overview of GQIS, an open source GIS program, from Jim O’Leary and Rick Davidson. They’ve generously shared their slides.

If you’d like to learn more about QGIS and Geospatial technology Rick and Jim are also offering a course at Langara.

Langara Qgis Course

Starting with Introduction to Geospatial Technology on Tuesday January 19, 2016, our new program offers five courses that can be taken individually or combined to qualify for the GIS Certificate.
Geographers, cartographers, environmental activists, urban planners, data visualizers, health policy researchers: whether you are looking for a way to access GIS software to
  • map climate change or traffic patterns,
  • supplement expensive proprietary software or use it in the field, or
  • enable your constituents to test various choices from different data sets,
GIS is a great addition to your skill set.
Using open source software loaded on your own laptop, you will build knowledge, skills and a portfolio of mapping projects to enhance your career, advance your cause or communicate your research.
In demand in a world increasingly focussed on visual representation of data to explain, persuade and project, a foundation in GIS principles and hands-on, practical experience with open source freely available software gives you a technological advantage with employers. And a powerful tool for making effective use of Open Data.
