Net Tuesday Pub Night

photoNet Tuesday Vancouver – presented by NetSquared

Please join us for Net Tuesday’s first pub night!

We cancelled our regularly scheduled meetup because we found out that you’re shy. You don’t like talking about your failures in public.

What’s the solution to your reticence? Liquor!

But seriously, please come to connect with us in a less formal setting than the monthly meetup.

Sorry – no minors allowed this time.

P.S. Come early if you want free snacks.

Web of Change alumni gathering in San Francisco

I went to the Web of Change conference in 2007 and it was a life-changing event (for the good!)

Along with Anna and Gregory, I have schemed up WOCxNTC. If you’re a Web of Change alumni going to the NTC conference this April (or if you call San Francisco home) we’d love to have you join us.

We’ll gossip, have a snack, grab a drink and perhaps wander off afterwards to join one of the Progressive Parties.
In summary: we’ll have some fun!

Know It and Show It – Thursday March 15th 2012

Calling all social entrepreneurs!

Know it and Show it flyerOn the evening of Thursday March 15th, 2012 you have the opportunity to learn how the Demonstrating Value (DV) framework can help you show the value of your work to the community. “Know It and Show It” is the first in a series of social learning events for social entrepreneurs co-hosted by SAP and Vancity Community Foundation. VCF and SAP are experts in helping social enterprises better manage their operations and communicate their social value.

The evening starts with a 15 minute overview of the DV framework by Garth Yule (VCF), followed by Heather O’Hara, ED of Potluck Café, who will share her experience of how DV has helped Potluck communicate their impact and develop their business. Steve Williams (SAP) will also discuss how social enterprises can take advantage of free SAP solutions throughTechSoup.

The rest of the evening is a social mixer – staff from SAP, Program Managers from Vancity Community Foundation (VCF) and experienced DV consultants and practitioners will be in attendance to answer your questions about how you can develop your own snapshot.

NetSquared Camp 2012

What is NetSquared Camp?

NetSquared Camp is a daylong unconference put on by the friendly folks that host the monthly Net Tuesday meetups in Vancouver.  Net Tuesday brings together social media users and web innovators with social change makers and nonprofits to swap stories, mix ideas, and build new relationships.  The aim is to empower non-profits with emerging tools, trends, and best-practices, allowing them to fulfill their mission statements in new and innovative ways.

The first NetSquared Camp had over 160 people in attendance.  The space at this event is limited to 80, so register early.

Who should come?

  • Non-profit people: learn more about utilizing technology to further your cause.
  • Web developers and social media people: share your best practices and find organizations that need your help.
  • Marketing people: assist non-profits in building strategic connections between their causes and their audiences.

Topics

This is an unconference, so you decide what want you want to discuss, share, explore, and learn.  Topics that Net Tuesday has covered over the last year include:

  • Should your nonprofit be selling merchandise?
  • Applications of location-based technology services
  • Managing volunteers with software and soft skills
  • How nonprofits win with word-of-mouth marketing
  • Redesigning your website: what you need to know
  • Flexing Facebook’s civic muscles
  • Delivering services through e-Learning
  • Google Analytics
  • Network organizations create better online campaigns

When, Where, and How Much?

NetSquared Camp 2012 will be held at The HiVE in downtown Vancouver, on Saturday, April 28 2012.  Early bird tickets cost $20; regular tickets are $25.  Register now on Eventbrite!

Event summary: Network organizations create better online campaigns

The February Net Tuesday was epic! We were forced to upgrade our venue because we sold out twice, and then we had our founder Joe Solomon make a last-minute appearance from San Francisco.

Huge thanks to Jason Mogus (Communicopia) for presenting his thoughts on an alternative model for building movement organizations, and to guest stars Joe Solomon (vagabond!) and Reilly Yeo (OpenMedia.ca) for their stories.

Our social media volunteer Kelvin Claveria did a twitter recap using storify.
