Web of Change alumni gathering in San Francisco

I went to the Web of Change conference in 2007 and it was a life-changing event (for the good!)

Along with Anna and Gregory, I have schemed up WOCxNTC. If you’re a Web of Change alumni going to the NTC conference this April (or if you call San Francisco home) we’d love to have you join us.

We’ll gossip, have a snack, grab a drink and perhaps wander off afterwards to join one of the Progressive Parties.

NetSquared Camp 2012

What is NetSquared Camp?

NetSquared Camp is a daylong unconference put on by the friendly folks that host the monthly Net Tuesday meetups in Vancouver.  Net Tuesday brings together social media users and web innovators with social change makers and nonprofits to swap stories, mix ideas, and build new relationships.  The aim is to empower non-profits with emerging tools, trends, and best-practices, allowing them to fulfill their mission statements in new and innovative ways.

The first NetSquared Camp had over 160 people in attendance.  The space at this event is limited to 80, so register early.

Who should come?

  • Non-profit people: learn more about utilizing technology to further your cause.
  • Web developers and social media people: share your best practices and find organizations that need your help.
  • Marketing people: assist non-profits in building strategic connections between their causes and their audiences.

This is an unconference, so you decide what want you want to discuss, share, explore, and learn.  Topics that Net Tuesday has covered over the last year include:

Event summary: Network organizations create better online campaigns

The February Net Tuesday was epic! We were forced to upgrade our venue because we sold out twice, and then we had our founder Joe Solomon make a last-minute appearance from San Francisco.

Huge thanks to Jason Mogus (Communicopia) for presenting his thoughts on an alternative model for building movement organizations, and to guest stars Joe Solomon (vagabond!) and Reilly Yeo (OpenMedia.ca) for their stories.

Young social innovators event series

Young? Care about things? Here’s some events of interest!

The BC Advisory Council on Social Entrepreneurship wants to get younger social entrepreneurs and innovators involved in their recommendations to the BC government.

A Lightning Pitch Event on March 6th will feature 90 second pitches from some of the most exciting initiatives from under 30’s in BC (and cash prizes!), and provide ample opportunity to network with emerging and established social change leaders, including members of the Council.

On March 10th we’re hosting a follow-up Speak Up!mini-conference for youth and youth serving organizations to generate more specific recommendations and feedback based on the Advisory Councils draft report (see below).
