September Events: Fundraising, Community Management and a Social Media Surgery

copy-Net2Van-web-logo.jpgHi folks!

September is here and with it comes two new series of events:

  • Video for Nonprofits (8 events)
  • Community Management Forum (6 events)

These events aren’t going to be held on Tuesday, so it’s time to change our name to NetSquared Vancouver or “Net2Van”. But don’t worry: the packaging may be different but it’s the same great taste. 🙂

Social Media Surgery: Hands on social media advice & help

When: Wednesday, September 25

Where: HootSuite Headquarters, Vancouver BC

RSVP: http://j.mp/1exXdW1

Do you need a hand in learning social media basics, like posting photos on Facebook or writing a tweet? Or maybe you have questions about how to track the clicks on your links, or use Facebook Insights? Or maybe you want to chat with someone about your social media strategy? Or maybe you’re a social media pro yourself, and want to share your experience with others?

This month we’re doing something a bit different: a social media surgery. Started in the UK, the basic idea of a social media surgery is that it’s an informal event where anyone in the community with questions about how to use social media (“patients”) can come and sit down with someone who is more experienced in that area (“surgeons”, aka “doctors” as we would say) and get friendly, personal advice.

On hand to help answer your questions will be several of the Net Tuesday team who have experience using platforms and tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Tweetdeck, Hootsuite, Bit.ly, Pinterest, Google+ and Tumblr.

See you soon!

Wanted: Social Media Surgeons

NetSquared Vancouver is planning a Social Media Surgery on Thursday, September 26 and we want you to be a part of it. Can you volunteer two hours of your time to help local nonprofits make better use of technology and online tools?

When: Wednesday September 25. 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Where: HootSuite Headquarters, 5 East 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC.

What’s a Social Media Surgery? It’s a fancy name for an event where we offer one-on-one social media and digital campaigning help for local nonprofits and community-minded folk. Think of it as a free consulting session for a local group that’s limited to 30 minutes.

Surgeries are a great way to support local nonprofits in a clear and time-constained format. The time commitment is two hours (four 30 minute sessions.)

Don’t worry if you don’t feel like an expert – we’ll be doing some pre-matching of our “patients” (those needing help) and our surgeons (that’s you!)

What’s in it for you?

  • You’re helping local nonprofits build community and supporters for their amazing work
  • You’re connecting with potential clients (if you’re a consultant)
  • It’s your chance to show off your skills!
  • It’ll be fun!

So what do you, wanna get involved? It’ll be fun! (did I already say that?) All you have to do is  say “yes” or fill out this form.

P.S. Wanna learn more about Social Media Surgeries? Check out their webpage or the NetSquared organizer’s handbook.

Who Does Good Annual Giving Campaigns at Year-End in Surrey or Vancouver?

Hi Smart Fundraisers,

I’m looking for someone who can present at NetSquared Surrey for my September end-of-year fundraising event. The presenter will provide an introduction to year-end fundraising (why Christmas and end of December are important) and provide a step-by-step recipe for small orgs doing their first year-end campaign.

  1. What are the key dates to hit?
  2. What should you messaging be?
  3. Tips on # of messages, tools to use, how to evaluate success, etc.

Ideally the presenter works for a Surrey organization, but I’m keen on other leads too.

Date: Probably September 12, but not confirmed yet.

Location: Surrey City Centre Library

VIDEO: Content Marketing for Nonprofits with Vanessa Chase

You might have heard of the term ‘content marketing,’ but is it something that non-profits should be dabbling in?

Absolutely!

Content marketing is a valuable tactic that non-profits can use to drive traffic to their websites or other online channels, engage their community in original content and positions them as an expert in the subject matter. Non-profits have amazing content to share , but most of it is going unnoticed.

Let’s change that.

In this edition of Net Tuesday, we covered the basics of content marketing (ie everything you need to know), how and why non-profits can use this awesome tactic and look at some examples of non-profits who are rockin’ it.

Presenter wanted: Year-End Fundraising

I’m looking for someone to present at September’s Tech4Good Surrey meetup.
The topic: Year-End fundraising.
A third of fundraising is done in December, and half of that is donated during the last couple days of the year. This presentation will share a template for nonprofits who are just starting their year-end online fundraising.
We’ll cover timing, messaging, and the tools (donation forms and email clients) and make it happen.
Audience: small nonprofits who do not currently have a sophisticated year-end fundraising plan.
Know anybody who could help with this?
Gimme a shout at eli@nettuesday.ca
